A window of opportunity with Hi-Motions products.

Anyone in the automation or construction industry will be aware of the dramatic and sudden cost increase of steel, importantly the raw material, and the impact this is having on industries.

Our range of HI-MOTIONS products, including hardware accessories for cantilever gates, sliding gates, and sliding doors are all steel products, many of which come from the raw material of steel coil. It is the steel coil that has been impacted the most, so considerable price increases are inevitable on the tracks and monorails with smaller increases expected on other hardware such as hinges and carriages.

Fortunately, due to our increased stock volumes at Beninca UK, we are pleased to announce we are currently able to honour a window of opportunity on the current stock, as we hold off price increases on Hi Motions products until 1st April 2021. This will be subject to availability, so we would encourage our customers to take full advantage as soon as possible whilst you have the opportunity.

With a price increase on tracks and monorails likely to be double figures in terms of percentages, this window of opportunity will last as long as the current stock does but it is financially very beneficial to order now so please contact our sales team to discuss your gate hardware requirements.

If you have any questions regarding the above, please do get in contact with us today.

Uncover what makes our BOB above ground operators unique!

All Benincà products are extensively tested, researched, and developed by our mechanical and electronics engineers. They are consistently looking to push the boundaries and design highly specialised products. When designing the BOB range, our engineers explored the possibilities of including FACE gearing within our swing gate operators.

For anyone that isn’t familiar with FACE gearing, it refers to the gear wheel with the cogs mortised into its face, usually in conjunction with a lantern pinion. Face gear enables the transmission of the drive through an angle and are commonly used in high power, high precision applications, particularly within the aviation sector.

Benincà have secured a patent for the use of FACE gears within the linear swing gate operator which is the BOB design. The patent concerns the 90 ° return of motion of the internal bevel gears. (highlighted in the picture below)

The inclusion of FACE gears within our BOB operator really sets them apart, as it is quite rare to find FACE gears in situations like ours, as touched on above, most commonly FACE gearing is used by manufacturers for helicopter tiltrotors.

The FACE gears within the BOB offer huge advantages in terms of weight and load distribution on the teeth, especially when used for multiple transmissions, compared to traditional bevel gears.

Key advantages the FACE gears bring to the BOB:

  • Reduced sensitivity to misalignment and low transmission errors, making the motor very silent.
  • The teeth geometry guarantees a better distribution of the stress, allowing a higher resistance to heavy loads, impacts and general wear and tear, delivering a smooth operation.

We often refer to ourselves as #automationspecialists, and the patent above is a prime example of where Benincà lead the way by producing innovative products, combined with state-of-the-art mechanics.

Life after Brexit: where do we stand?

As we all know, Brexit has been the main topic of conversation over the past 4 years (with a little break due to COVID)and on the 31st December 2020 at 11pm the United Kingdom left the European Union.

There is still a lot of uncertainty, especially for businesses trying to quickly and efficiently implement the new changes, however, we wanted to reassure our customers that Benincà UK have been working hard behind the scenes to minimise the impacts.

Increased Stock Volumes

Back in the summer of 2020, we adjusted our forecasting and significantly increased our order volumes, so we now hold a much larger volume of stock. All made possible by our recent warehouse expansionWe are therefore confident we have sufficient stock, even across our most popular lines.

Regarding future imports from Italy, we already meet a number of the import requirements, but to help counteract any potential issues, we have recently assigned a customs agentOur newly appointed customs agent will work alongside us to ensure all imports moving forward from Italy will be as smooth and quick as possible.

Gate Safety Legislation

We have been asked lots of questions in relation to gate safety laws and changes within the legislation for compliant gate systems post Brexit. Companies that place new systems on the market have legal responsibilities under a range of product safety criminal legislation. The gate industry is very aware of safety legislation that has its origins in European CE marking legislation. Post-Brexit (1st January 2021), the emphasis in Great Britain will not be on the European Machinery Directive but on the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 (SMSR), a UK regulation. The SMSR was enacted to implement the EU directives and regulations so the effect and meaning of the two different regulations are the same, just slightly different wording.

We are anticipating further revisions to guides to gate safety following the pending publication of a new version of EN 12453. As soon as we learn more on this, we will be sure to pass on the information.

There are various exclusions or allowances within the legislation changes, for example, goods installed in Northern Ireland or brought into Great Britain from Northern Ireland due to the Northern Ireland protocol around the Brexit trade and cooperation agreements, NI remain tied with CE marking and EU regulations.

For a more detailed guide to recent legislation changes, please view the DHF TS011 & 012:2019 Supplement dated December 2020

UKCA Certification

We would also like to draw your attention to the new UKCA marking requirements. Many of you will be familiar with the CE mark, this is no longer valid and has been replaced by the new UKCA mark. For installers, this means every new gate installed must now have a UKCA mark applied upon completion. This became law as of the 1st January 2021 and if you would like more detail around this, please read our recent blog. (UKCA FAQ’s)

As weas a company sell components of machinery, Benincà have a grace period to transition products fully across from the current CE mark to the new UKCA mark by January 2022. We are working with HQ currently to make changes to our products and literature and anticipate completing this well before the deadline, so there will be no impact to our customers.

MAXIMUM: The ‘all-new’ crash-rated M30 bollard

Beninca UK have seen a huge increase in the demand for automatic bollardsAutomatic bollards provide a safe and efficient solution for controlling traffic flow and vehicle access, ultimately protecting people and places.

RISE are one of the six companies that fall under the Benincà Group and already have a well-established range of automatic bollardssold globally. At Benincà we strive to be #automationspecialists and are continuously looking to develop our brands and bring new opportunities to the foreground.

Benincà and RISE have been working extremely hard to create a new automatic bollard that can deliver unrivalled protection under the most extreme measures and off the back of this, the creation of the new MAXIMUM M30 bollard was born.

Here are some of the key features of the MAXIMUM M30:

  • Capable of withstanding the impact of a vehicle of 7,500kg, launched at a speed of 48 km/h.
  • Obtained the following certificates: IWA 14-1:2013 V/7200 [N3C] /48/90: -0.8 / PAS68:2013 V/7500 [N3] /48/90: -0.5 / ASTM F2656 Rating C730/7200 – P1 (-0.8)
  • In the event of a power failure, the bollard will remain in the raised position (manual release) to ensure security is not compromised.
  • The foundation box complies with the EN124 (40T) regulation and there is an independent hydraulic pump for each bollard, laterally positioned in order to avoid any damage in the event of an impact and to facilitate future maintenance.
  • Heating for the foundation box and buzzer are available as accessories.
  • The cylinder is available in painted steel or electropolished stainless steel
  • The cylinder has built-in LED lights, and the control unit can manage 2 bollards at the same time.

The RISE Maximum M30 performed outstandingly in the crashtest and secured negative penetration of 0.8 m, indicating that the truck bed stopped at 0.8 m in front of the bollard. To put that into context, specification sheets often refer to penetration grade P1, which according to ASTM is obtained when the truck bed passes beyond the bollard by a maximum distance of 1 metre. Therefore, the negative penetration value obtained by RISE (-0.8 m) is an even higher performance result.

So, after years of research and development, we are delighted the MAXIMUM M30 bollard is officially in production within the RISE factory in Italy and will be making its way to the UK market later this year. We have big hopes for the MAXIMUM bollard and look forward to working with the highsecurity market, supplying them with a high-quality product with an excellent M30 test certificate, alongside the heritage of the RISE brand.

How does the ONE.2WO receiver differ from the ONE.2WB?

The ONE.2WB is a 2 channel boxed 433.92Mhz radio receiver that needs to be added within the enclosure and control panel upon installation. This can sometimes be difficult due to limited space and so, we’d like to draw your attention to the sister product, the ONE.2WO.

Both the ONE.2WB and ONE.2WO are almost identical, as they are both capable of storing up to 512 transmitters and with 2 channels working on a 433.92Mhz frequency. However, the ONE.2WO has an IP rated enclosure, meaning it can be mounted externally, for example; directly to a garage door or post, as it is completely weatherproof.

If you have any questions regarding the above products, please do get in touch. You can also download the datasheet here.
