Understanding our ‘Password’ Symbol

With security at the forefront of end users’ minds and a driving force behind most new electric gate installs, ensuring our products guarantee the highest level of security is a priority.

The ‘Password’ symbol was created specifically to represent our control panels that allow for a unique protection code to be added.

This additional function allows the installer the option to set a unique four-digit security code, which then works to lock the control unit programming, preventing unwanted access to the menus and blocking any future modifications to the settings and parameters.

Once the protection code has been set, this should be stored safely and only shared with the necessary contacts for scheduled maintenance.

If you would like more detail on how to add a protection code, you can find the simple instructions here.

Expanding our Hi-Motions cantilever hardware, meet the New XM Series

We are continuously reviewing and developing our products to ensure they meet the needs and requirements of our installing customers. Our Hi-Motions range of cantilever hardware already offered customers variety, with an extensive range of sizes. However, with vital feedback from our customers and upon reviewing products currently available, we identified a gap within the range.

This is where we introduce the brand-new XM series, specifically created to bridge the gap between our M (medium) and L (large) series of galvanised cantilever carriages and track. The XM series is the perfect go-to when the M series doesn’t quite fit the bill, but the L series is over specified.

With its rail profile of 68×68 mm, the XM series is ideal for domestic cantilever gates providing the perfect fit for gates up to 6m entrance width and 700kg structure weight.

When it comes to gates, there definitely isn’t a one-size-fits-all. The XM series really enhances our already very popular ranges of cantilever gate hardware.

If you think the XM series might be the perfect fit for your next job, please do get in contact with our knowledgeable and friendly team for more details or to order.

You can download the XM Series datasheet here.

The BISON35OTIL, our largest single-phase sliding gate motor

The BISON35OTIL with its three-phase electromechanical geared motor can be connected to a 230 Vac single-phase network. A unique factor, as commonly we see larger capacity gate motors demand a higher voltage supply. The fact the BISON35OTIL can be powered by a single-phase supply makes it much more accessible for a range of environments.

Capable of powering gates with a hefty weight of up to 3,500kg, the BISON35OTIL is ideal for intensive use and industrial applications. With its sleek and stylish design, the outer casing has a protective treatment and paint to ensure it withstands the test of time.

If you take a look under the casing, the solid metal mechanics and oil lubrication ensure maximum performance and excellent efficiency even at low temperatures. The built-in encoder device ensures precision throughout the gate moving phases, whilst the inverter technology allows for more precise adjustment of the gate moving phases, and increased crush prevention security.

Key Features:

  • Control unit with built-in receiver, magnetic encoder and receiver.
  • Oil lubricated gearing to ensure maximum durability. The type of oil used is also particularly effective and ensures maximum efficiency even at low temperatures.
  • MOD6 pinion

Get to know our commercial sliding gate motors

Since it arrived in the UK, the BISON motor has generated an impressive reputation as a genuine heavy-duty commercial sliding gate motor with proven reliability in the field. When a motor has a reputation for performance and reliability, you know you have a good thing!

The BISON was our first motor to offer inverter technology with accurate control of the motor frequency and therefore its movement and position. It was also our first real commercial motor to be housed under a steel lid and not just have an impressive spec, but to look the part too.

So what were its flaws?………..well none of course, but our products always evolve to our customer’s needs and many of our customers made the decision to fit nothing other than the BISON. This was great… but on smaller domestic gates or even a very lightweight commercial job, the BISON was the adult at the kid’s tea party, so we looked at something else we could offer.

We introduce the YAK, even by the name you’ll find the internet explanation that the YAK is generally a smaller version of a BISON animal and related more to cattle where the BISON remains the big boy in this gene pool.

The YAK25OTI 230v Inverter 2500KG sliding gate motor is exactly that, it’s a BISON25OTI that has had some further modernisation as well as short back and sides to fit into a marketplace where you want a BISON but maybe you don’t need a BISON.

Now we will explain the key features of the YAK and the differences between the YAK25OTI and the BISON 25OTI. Don’t get confused that it’s physically a smaller motor, the capacity is the same, up to 2500Kg with inverter technology and the motor dimensions are also much the same, there are however some unique differences.

The BISON was originally designed using many of the BULL sliding gate motor features, including the BULL motor housing. The YAK has maintained this design but got closer to the BULL with a standard BULL-style manual release mechanism that replaces the double mechanism on the BISON. The YAK lid has also lost the photocell integration that the BISON had so both changes have reduced production cost with almost zero effect on performance. This is how we can offer an almost identical spec motor, slightly cheaper to the market, providing the perfect go-between for your domestic to commercial motor.

The most significant difference is the inverter technology and how the panel works with this technology. The BISON has a separate inverter product situated underneath the control panel alongside the motor. The YAK has a more modern built-in inverter into the control panel, saving space within the motor housing.

Using the analogy of a golfer, with the YAK and the BISON you have two big drivers in the bag, two clubs that will hit the same distance, and you’re as good with both of them. The YAK, your latest driver to the bag, cost you roughly 12% less and had some more modern features but you keep the BISON, the original big boy who you’ve grown to love and cherish.

The success of the BULL Turbo range.

Since its introduction to the UK market in 2018, the Turbo range of sliding gate operators has proved to be a very valuable asset in the armoury of Beninca UK’s automation products. With opening speeds of up to double that of the existing BULL range, motors bearing the ‘turbo’ symbol have opened up a whole new market of customers requiring sliding gate motors that are quick, reliable, and most of all safe. Over the past three years, it really has been a product that has sold itself for us and much like some of our larger sliding gate operators, its reputation precedes itself.

The BULL624 and BULL1224 turbo not only boast new high-speed 24v motors but benefit from a new redesigned horizontal panel making installation and servicing far more accessible for the installer. With this new chassis comes a neatly thought out housing designed for battery up if required. If you choose to not use the battery backup, then you have gained a good amount of space for housing any additional accessories you might need – everyone knows what a premium space is under the lid of a sliding gate motor! The control panel comes with all the usual inputs as found on the rest of our low voltage BULL range but has the addition of being able to integrate into home automation systems using the KNX protocol, as well as a new innovative master and slave input with the addition of the SIS accessories.

As with any fast-moving motor, people will always question the safety element. “How can you get a motor moving that quick to comply with current regulations?” With thanks to the control panels ‘virtual’ encoder, the motors amperometric sensing, and pairing that with an 8K2 input you have all the tools at your disposal to meet modern safety requirements.

The TURBO motors have been a revelation for the sliding gate range at Beninca UK and they show no sign of slowing down yet.

1 year extension for Benincà UK to meet UKCA marking rules

The UK Government confirmed on the 24th of August 2021, businesses will now have an extra year to start implementing the new product safety marking (UKCA) on pieces of partly completed machinery.

Following Brexit and the Government’s original guidance, we informed customers we would be working to ensure all our products would be compliant with the new UKCA mark applied by the original deadline date of the 1st of January 2022.

Whilst we are still working very hard behind the scenes, we are grateful for the extension given the amount of work involved. We can therefore confirm all our products will now have the UKCA marking and overall compliance to Supply of Machinery Regulations act 2008, by the new deadline date of 1st January 2023, unless we communicate this any earlier. So, customers can continue to expect to receive and see our products without change for the near future, with the current / approved CE mark safety label.

Please note this does not change any of the rules for our trade customers, we would still like to stress the UKCA mark extension only affects individual products and components known as pieces of partly completed machinery such as the gate drive or control panel for example. A complete gate system is classified as machinery, with the installer being the systems integrator / manufacturer. So, upon completion of any installation of new machinery, all installers must apply the UKCA mark to the complete system as per rules in place from January 2021.

For more details on this, please refer to our original blog post: https://benincauk.co.uk/ukca-faqs/

Get to know the full features of our EVA barrier.

The EVA traffic barrier is the perfect solution for controlling traffic access and securing car parks. Available in three different lengths, including 5, 7, and 8 metres, it is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications. With easy installation, once the barrier is installed it will work to control and secure the entry point, only allowing authorised vehicles to pass through.

Did you know… the EVA has electronic controls with a magnetic encoder that performs as an absolute encoder?

The absolute encoder gives you the ability to manage an advanced beam movement. The encoder ensures greater precision in slowdowns, as it provides a direct reference on the speed of the boom arm (the encoder is mounted on the axis of the motor output). Also, being an absolute encoder type, it never loses the reference position of the boom in the event of power outages. The adjustable physical stops remain, and the encoder gives you greater control.

Alongside the magnetic encoder, the EVA has an impressive range of key features:

  • Top access to the control panel for easy and fast programming.
  • The ability to switch power range extended from 85 to 265 Vac that reduces standby power, separate from the control.
  • Integrated STC system for precise torque calculation.
  • Amperometric sensing obstacle detection.
  • Fast acting manual release.
  • 2 Adjustable mechanical stops.

If you have any questions and would like to discuss the EVA barrier with a member of our sales team, you can contact us on 01488 658276 or sales@beninca.co.uk

Understanding our ‘STC System’ Symbol

You may have spotted we quite often refer to a series of symbols via our online content, and also throughout our catalogue. (*The symbols are located at the top left-hand corner of each product page within the catalogue.) The unique symbols are designed to help you identify the key features of each product and ultimately help guide you to choosing the right one.

Today we explain one of those symbols, the STC System……what does it mean?

The STC System is the use of intelligent power control of the motor output on the panel. The dynamic data is obtained through a precise calculation of the thrust. The system is able to locate any critical points and adjust the torque accordingly in relation to the actual requirements.

So next time you run an ‘auto-set’ and see the motors moving independently, rest assured that the STC System is carefully calculating the actual torque requirements required for a smooth and reliable open and close operation.

Pretty clever stuff, and the exact reason why this unique symbol falls under the ‘innovation’ category. Hopefully now in the future, if you spot the STC System symbol you will have a clear understanding of how it works and the benefit it brings to the product’s overall performance.
